Family Sponsorship

The goal of family class immigration is to reunite the families in Canada as per Section 12(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). This allows a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to sponsor, on basis of their relationship, the spouse, common-law partner, child, parent or other prescribed family members.

Who can be sponsored?

Spouse, common-law partners, conjugal partner
Dependent child
Children adopted for adoption
Parents, grandparents and their dependent children
Brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren who are orphaned, who are under 18, and who are not a spouse or common law partner
Any relative, if the sponsor is alone in Canada without family members and has none of the above family members to sponsor
